  • How to Initially Adjust Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes
  • You can initially adjust your Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-458-459 but the adjustment tool you are using might just be too thick to get to the adjustment wheel. You should use something that allows you to more easily access that wheel (as shown in picture) such as a flathead screwdriver. If you go to the linked video and forward to about the 14:15 mark you can see a flathead screwdriver being used to make an initial adjustment.

  • Replacement Lippert Jack Plus Install Tools
  • I reached out to my contact at Lippert parts and found out that the Lippert # LC285318 electric jack does not have a replacement drop foot. To replace this you could install another Lippert LC285318 which you know will be a perfect fit, or you could check out the Lippert # LC643589 "Smart" Electric Jack. the smart jack has better lighting and remembers tongue possitions for quick and easy hook up. If you decide not to run the old wires all the way to the terminal, you will need connectors...

  • Troubleshooting Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3555 That Stopped Working
  • Most likely you blew a fuse in your Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3555. Check the yellow fuse holder that is on the main power wire of the jack as that is most likely the issue. This jack is somewhat known for being easier to blow fuses than other jacks.

  • Removing Broken Lippert Electric Stabilizer jacks
  • If your Lippert electric stabilizer jacks will not operate via their motors or via the manual crank (which is now broken) I am afraid the only option to let you move the trailer is to remove the damaged rear stabilizer jacks. You will need some method of safely stabilizing the rear of the trailer so that you can unbolt the damaged jack(s) and move the trailer. I understand that your rear jacks are off the ground already but for your safety I urge you to use stands like # UF48-979003 any...

  • Tandem Axle Trailer Electric Brake Force Adjustment
  • It sounds like you may just need to adjust the tension on the brakes on the front axle. A tool like Brake Spoon # W80630, shown in the linked video, or a flat blade screwdriver can be used to rotate the star wheel adjuster which is under the magnet. The brake shown in the video is hydraulic but the adjustment star wheel and the process are the same for electric drum brakes. If the brakes are not all identical and installed at the same time this different braking force is not surprising....

  • How to Adjust Drum Brake Pad Pressure Using Brake Spoon Tool
  • If you have not already done so you can adjust the brake pad pressure star wheel to increase the pad pressure on the hub surface. This will increase your braking force. Since it sounds like all the brakes are behaving in the same way (and have the same modest wear) this is most likely the issue. You can use the brake spoon adjustment tool # W80630 or a flat blade screwdriver to rotate the star wheel upward (as viewed from the rear of the brake, where the adjustment slot is). Please refer...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Where Only One Electric Drum Brake Assembly Functions
  • You could have a brake assembly that simply requires adjustment. Some electric drum brakes like Dexter # 23-459 have a Nev-R-Adjust feature that automatically adjusts their tension, but others like # 23-106 have an adjuster mechanism called a star wheel that you need to manually adjust (there's a tool for this, part # W80630) to get the right braking force. The linked photo shows you the location of the star wheel and the included video also calls this out at the 1:20-minute mark. If you...

  • Clearing Fault Code and Manually Operating Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Electric Leveling System
  • The Lippert Ground Control, # LC358590 can be reset/clear error codes by pressing the retract button and the enter button simultaneously. You will need to hold both for about 3 seconds to clear the error code. You can also try powering down the entire system and waiting a few minutes before reconnecting power. You must have a properly charged battery for the system to function properly. In addition, you can manually retract the jacks: Top of Jack Motor Override: Tools needed:3/8” drive...

  • Troubleshooting Running Lights and Dash on 1986 Ford Econoline Jayco Motorhome
  • You said you checked the fuses. Some motorhomes have fuse boxes in multiple locations, inside the engine compartment, inside the cab under the dash, and even in the camper sewer/electrical compartment. Sometimes a fuse may appear to be in good condition, but really needs replacing. To rule that out, take a new fuse that has the same rating and insert it into the proper location. If the problem is a short, and the next fuse that you insert shorts out as well, you will need to use the circuit...

  • One of Four Electric Trailer Brakes Locks Up When Brakes are Applied
  • Since your brake controller appears to be working - 3 of the 4 trailer brake assemblies work correctly - the issue is likely to be on the trailer side. The issue with one of your four brake assemblies locking up could be due to it needing adjustment or it could indicate a problem with one or more of the components in the brake assembly. There could also be an outside chance that the spindle on that end of the axle is bent, which could lead to excessive pressure on the brake pads. First,...

  • Loose/Bad Connection Between Trailer Connector and Vehicle 7/4-Way Socket
  • I do have an option for you but we don't have any specific tools to clean a trailer connector. That said, if you are getting intermittent signals this can be caused by either corrosion or worn terminals. If you don't see any corrosion then it's most likely the latter and you'd be best off to just replace the connector either on the vehicle or trailer. If you can send me a photo of either I'd be able to see about getting you the correct replacements but it sounds like you might need the...

  • Adjustment of Electric Drum Brakes on Tandem Axle Travel Trailer
  • Electric drum brakes on a trailer/caravan will emit audible humming noises when the magnets are energized by a vehicle-mounted brake controller such as the Prodigy P2 # 90885. This humming sounds is perfectly normal and it tells you that power is reaching the brakes as it should. You may need to simply adjust the drum brakes' tension so that the pads better engage the inside drum surface. This is done using the star wheel adjustment shaft on the brakes, which is just below the magnets....

  • Blue Ox 7-way to 6-way Coiled Electrical Cord - No Power on 12VDC Accessory Line
  • It seems that you had an older Blue Ox 7-way to 6-way electrical cord, and now your new cord has a different pin-out pattern. On the latest cord the "Electric Brake" line and the "battery charge" lines are swapped. You could test this (when fully hooked up) by hooking up a volt meter like the Performance Tools # PT89ZR multimeter to your 12 auxiliary outlet and finding no voltage, but when you press the brakes in the towing vehicle, voltage will appear at the outlet. The harder you push,...

  • Is 3-4 Minute Retract Time Normal for Hydraulic Landing Gear Jack for RV
  • It is normal for your Lippert hydraulic jack to take 3-4 minutes to retract, according to my contact at Lippert. You really will only have to worry about operation if you aren't able to manually retract the jack. There should be a plug you can remove on the top or bottom of the jack that allows you to use a tool to adjust the trailer jack height. All Lippert electric and hydraulic landing gear jacks for RVs have a manual override feature according to my contact at Lippert.

  • Troubleshooting Electric Brakes on a 2010 Keystone Camper Locking Up When Truck Reverses
  • The brakes are most likely locking up because the wire layout on the trailer plug and vehicle plug do not match. Use a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 to check at the vehicle plug for the location of the electric brake signal. I usually see this issue on 6-Way plugs, because there are two industry standards for the plug layout. The electric brake wire on the 6-Way, usually blue, should either be on the center pin or on the 10 o'clock pin, facing the front of the plug. It switches...

  • Lippert Power Stabilizer Jack Not Working Properly
  • Your Lippert # LC298707 Electric Stabilizer Jack is also known as the "PSX1" jack. There are a few possible issues at hand and with a bit of testing we can probably narrow in on the malfunction. First I have attached a wiring schematic for this system. Note that there should be an inline fuse between the battery and the switch. Verify that the fuse is not blown using an electrical tester like the Performance Tools # PT89ZR. If you have power there, then trace the power to the extend/retract...

  • Troubleshooting 5-Year-Old Electric Jack That Works Sporadically
  • Your 5-year-old electric trailer jack working sporadically could indeed be caused by loose or corroded internal wiring inside the housing. The presence of rust on the screws certainly suggests the possibility that corrosion could be at the heart of the problem. You could also have a loose ground connection. Some A-frame jacks use their mounting plate to make the ground at the trailer's steel frame. Sometimes that mounting area can get rusty and create intermittent operation. The force...

  • Why are Electric Brakes Getting Hot on 98 Coleman Camper After Installation of New Brake Assemblies
  • It sounds to me as if there is one of three problems going on. The most likely problem is that the brake assembly on the right side is not properly adjusted. There is an access hole in the backing plate to insert a brake adjusting tool through and turn the adjuster in or out to properly adjust the trailer brakes. We have a video on trailer brake installation and at 4 minutes 40 seconds trailer brake adjustment is shown. Tighten up the brakes inside the drum until it stops turning. Then...

  • Troubleshooting Electric Trailer Brakes That Hum But Do Not Engage Drums
  • The humming sound you hear from your trailer's electric drum brakes is a good sign. It means that the brakes' magnets are being energized by the output from the trailer brake controller in the vehicle. The issue with the brakes not applying pressure to the drums could simply be a matter of adjustment, or it could have another cause. Drum brakes like # AKEBRK-35 have an adjustment device called a star wheel that is located near the bottom of the magnet. Please refer to the picture I prepared...

  • Braking is Weaker After Replacing Electric Trailer Brakes
  • Anytime you put on new brakes you have to make sure to adjust them. There is a little adjustment wheel below the magnet accessible through a hole on the back side of the backing plate. Use a screwdriver or similar flat blade tool to turn the wheel. You will keep turning it until the pads drag slightly but consistently on the drum when you turn it. I have included a link to a video showing the process. Fast forward to about the 1:55 minute mark to see the process. If you have done this...
